Typically a clock that has not been running or worked on for years needs a Complete Overhaul. Servicing is required on clocks (that have already had an overhaul) every 5-7 years. Servicing isn't as involved as a Complete Overhaul, because usually repairs aren't as often needed.
Mainly Servicing is cleaning the clock, making sure that all parts are still working as they should, and replacing oil. Clocks if allowed to run longer than 5-7 years, can experience oil becoming thick, gummy, or it can even evaporate. When oils thicken it can cause the clock to run slow or even stop. Proper Servicing helps to keep your clock running with less chance of problems.
Here's the steps to our Servicing*:
1. Complete Movement Disassembly - We take apart the wheels, levers, and anything else that can come apart.
2. Thorough Cleaning - Using an ultrasonic cleaner and even a little hand cleaning, we thoroughly clean the clock's components to help ensure a smooth running clock.
3. Complete Mainspring Cleaning - Too often, a dirty mainspring can cause the clock to stop. We take out the mainspring, clean it by hand and ultrasonically and follow with proper oiling and lubricating.
4. Movement Reassembly - This final step includes reassembling the wheels and mainsprings, and proper oiling, testing, and regulating.
See our Guarantee Page for additional information.
*Of course every clock is unique and needs to be treated as such. These steps are a general guideline of how we keep your clock running it's best.
